Are you a dance school?
We are a dance company and pride ourselves on being unlike anything else you will find across the youth dance sector. We bring together training in a range of styles from contemporary to commercial, disciplined, high-level classes, unrivalled performance opportunities across the country and a loving, supportive family environment. There really is nothing quite like us! We've worked to bring all the best things about dance together, and cut out all of the bad bits. When you join One Youth you're joining more than just a school, or even a company, you're joining a movement.
Do you offer exams in any dance styles?
Our regular training includes styles such as contemporary, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and commercial, and we work with guest choreographers across genres throughout the year. Our staff are not bound by set syllabi, and are trained to push our dancers as far as they can.
We do not follow programmes set by traditional British examining bodies, and do not enter dancers for exams. We believe that set work can hold talented young dancers back, and instead work in an environment where the sky is the limit.
Do I need a lot of experience to audition?
You do not need any dance experience to apply for an audition. Our panelists are not looking for perfection but rather hunger, drive and a willingness to learn.
When do you rehearse?
The company rehearse every Sunday during term time. Our Junior Company from 2pm - 5pm, and our Senior Company from either 11am - 2pm or 2pm - 5pm, dependent on level. All rehearsals are held in bright, spacious studios with state of the art sprung floors and mirrors at The Place in Bloomsbury, central London. The studios are a stone's throw from both Euston and Kings Cross stations, as well as bus routes spanning London.
How much are your fees?
All of our training is £9ph. We work for our rate to be highly competitive whilst providing a level of training unobtainable elsewhere.
For additional rehearsals in the lead up to an event we ask for a contribution of £10 per dancer. Sometimes dancers are also chosen for small select pieces such as duets, solos and trios, for the creation of these we ask for a one-off contribution of £60.
You sound a little too good to be true?
No, we really are amazing! We are driven by a love for what we do, and always go above and beyond for our company members. Once you've joined the company you'll see for yourself!
